When we talk about sustainable cosmetics, our minds usually go straight to formulas \u2014 rarely to the vessel the product actually arrives in. That question became the starting point for a collaboration between Mycopor and the Ukrainian cosmetics brand Re[Sens], based in Kyiv. Instead of plastic or cardboard, they chose a material you won’t find growing on a shelf in nature \u2014 because it’s literally grown: mycelium, the root-like network of fungi that, under the right conditions, forms itself into something solid, lightweight, and fully biodegradable.<\/p>\n
The process looks almost like craftsmanship, even though it’s precision-controlled biotechnology at its core. Blocks of mycelium are cultivated in casts, then dried and arranged in rows, ready for packing. What emerges are firm, textured surfaces in natural shades of brown and beige \u2014 a world away from the sterile smoothness of plastic packaging, and a difference that becomes part of the brand’s story in its own right.<\/p>\n
For Re[Sens], this means packaging that simply breaks back down into nature once its job is done \u2014 a detail that matters even more in circumstances where a sustainable, locally made alternative isn’t just nice to have, but genuinely needed.
